Many years ago when our first born was only a baby, we met a family that all participated in karate together... the whole family! The dad explained to us that they chose an activity that they could all do together so that they were spending time together and doing something they were all passionate about.
They didn't want to get stuck in the same ol' rut of shuttling their kids to all different activities all over town everyday. They wanted to be together without the hassle and the headache! I'm sure many of you can relate.
Collin and I thought that was a brilliant idea and kept it in the back of our minds as our family grew and our kids started to get older.
After my battle with depression and my search for a better life, I found my candle business. (Listen to my story online)
But then another amazing thing happened... my son loved the candles and was very interested in selling candles. My girls absolutely loved helping me with the "office work" part and helped me label products and make the scented crafts. My husband started promoting the business to his co-workers and delivering candles for me.
Pretty soon, we had ourselves a family homebased business and we were spending a lot of time together and having a great time!
Wow! Without even trying we found something we could do together to have fun, create memories, and make money all at the same time! A family homebased business!
In July 2005, our kids were featured in the candle company's monthly newsletter.

The Candle Stand...
This Is A Family Homebased Business
Back in October 2004 when I signed up to start my business, I had no idea that I was signing up my whole family. My children have embraced this business as if it were their own. My son is counting down the days until he can sign up to become a distributor himself. He’s 8 years old!
My children ARE my business partners and help me with all aspects of this business. They put labels on all the products. They alphabetize the scents. My daughters hand out pens and drawing slips at my parties and collect them for me. But, my son has taken selling candles to a whole new level!
One Saturday afternoon, my son asked me if he could sell candles. He asks me that a lot so I didn’t think much of it and told him that we didn’t have a party and that I didn’t have plans to sell any that day. He was persistent and said that he wanted to set up a candle stand. I didn’t understand… “You know, Mom, like a lemonade stand.”
He took out a little table and some chairs and recruited his sisters to hand out my business cards and hold a sign. He chose two dozen assorted votives and set up on the sidewalk in front of our house. Did he just sit there waiting for people to come to him? No way!! He waved to cars passing by and stopped people as they walked by.* He would ask them to smell his favorite candles and his little sister would hand them a business card. He sold quite a few candles that day and planted lots of seeds.

What a wonderful opportunity we have that even an 8 year old can understand it. Include your children in your businesses and YOU might even learn something from them like I did from my son and his Candle Stand.
